The exhibition BACK YARD is created by artists sharing a studio in a converted factory of the scenic town Wollerau (SZ). Wollerau was previously named “Hinterer Hof” which literally means “back yard”.
Veronika Spierenburg’s concept for BACK YARD is to address the idea of artists sharing a same space by asking whether this can be used define them or whether defining artists as belonging to groups requires a shared content (such as with the Young British Artists) or a shared history (as with the Guggenheim show “theanyspacewhatever,” 2009).
Spierenburg’s strategy is based on using the gallery as a backdrop for the artists’ work, linked by their same studio space, to enhance the dialectic between the individual and the whole. |
