Ice Out at Walden 4 wood cut, dry point, digital print 2010
"Ice Out" by Jane D. Marsching and "Under the Bridge" by Lalie Schewadron is a two- person show sharing an insight into the modern transformation and evolution of two distinct geographical locations. Working independently in "Walden Pond", Massachusetts, USA (Marsching) and in "Le Grand Pont", Lausanne, Switzerland (Schewadron), both artists chart the way in which a site is never just physical geography but a sum of evolving responses to past and present elements from our cultural, technological, economical and ecological worlds.
Whether working with weather data (Marsching) or with daily and mundane images (Schewadron) they both engage, through the particular nature of their practice, with the translation and transformation of data and images from one media into the next. As data are visualized and images move into new states of existence, they form new layers that challenge our notions of nature, site, sustainability and chance. |
