Simon Heijdens was born in Breda, the Netherlands, in 1978. He studied film at Udk Berlin, and product design at Design Academy Eindhoven where his Moving Wallpaper was awarded best graduation project of 2002. Now based in London, he has designed products for Droog, Swarovski and Artechnica. His installation work, exhibited in London, Shanghai, Los Angeles and Tokyo; most notably features Tree, a projected image of trees that move in response to the wind and drop a leaf whenever someone passes by. Heijdens describes Tree as “an installation that traces and amplifies the leftovers of nature in the urban surroundings”. Lightweeds is an evolution of this mysterious and beautiful concept: a series of weather sensors transmit data about light and moisture in the atmosphere to provoke the growth of digitally projected “weeds” on the wall inside. |
