Michael Ashcroft presents five very large paintings and a set of drawings for
his solo show at the Lucy Mackintosh Gallery in Lausanne.
The paintings Michael Ashcroft has made over the last year have been based on
photographic images taken from Christian literature that present an idealised vision
of the world. The images of "When Life Began", rather than being from religious
sources, are taken from 1960s travel guides, which Ashcroft subtly altered by
painting out details to return these places to an unspoilt wilderness.
